Delicately situated by the shores of Lake Saint-Jean in Quebec, is a cozy nature getaway called the La Cache Modular Residences, created by Delordinaire Architects in consortium with Annie Sylvain Architects.

The Cache is a small assortment of modular structures which uniquely integrate themselves into the remote site. One of the delightful aspects of La Cache is how the structure gently brushes the land, supported by an elegant stilt structure. This design minimizes impact on the natural landscape and reduces the need for substantial foundations, substantially reducing its footprint – both literally and metaphorically.

Being raised above the ground creates a cozy, sheltered outdoor area beneath each module, perfect for enjoying warm summer days in the shade. The elevated position also rewards its residents with breathtaking panoramic views of the beautiful Lake Saint-Jean.

These charming little 50 m² modular homes were prefabricated with care north of Montreal before being brought to their final location for assembly. The pre-fab approach ensures exceptional construction quality, while also minimizing the carbon footprint and waste due to eliminating the need for multiple trades to go on-site.

The La Cache modules are clad with larch wood, which gives the exterior a warm, natural look and a durable exterior. It’s also a nod to the great Canadian forests, where larch wood is a vital part of our Northern ecosystem.

Underlying Delordinaire’s design philosophy is the relationship between inside and outside. The living spaces, filled with natural light streaming through large bay windows, softly blur the lines between home and the surrounding landscape. These expansive openings beautifully frame the picturesque lakefront views, encouraging residents to truly connect with the beauty of Canadian nature.
Each modular home is thoughtfully positioned with care at its specific location. Adjustments in height and orientation are made to make the most of sunlight and optimize those stunning lake views. This considerate, site-specific approach makes every home feel uniquely in harmony with its environment.
Delordinaire’s modular housing concept reflects their profound exploration of our relationship with the land we inhabit, and the marriage of sustainable building philosophy with sophisticated design.
