IIDEX CANADA

It’s that time of year in Toronto again,

Canada’s National Design and Architecture Exposition & Conference is just around the corner and here’s what’s on the agenda for 2013!

‘THINK:Material’ returns to IIDEX this year with another collection of sustainable and inventive material manufacturers on display. Annually, this firm offers a unique look at green materials through their interactive exhibits.

This year their booth celebrates ‘Panolam’, a Thermally Fused Laminate resembling distressed wood, used for cabinetry, millwork, fixtures and furniture.

For 2013 IIDEX will feature a favourite event called a Pecha Kucha with the theme “Get Better”.

A Pecha Kucha is a pre-timed presentation of twenty slides at twenty seconds each, where the speakers plan ahead and must keep in time with the slideshow.

A fun event to check out at the IDC/RAIC booth, in conjunction with Moleskin notebooks, is the IIDEX sketching contest.

This free event allows you to draw a sketch and tweet it to @IDCanadatweets for your chance to win a moleskin gift package!

Finally, IIDEX also has an amazing lineup of 6 keynote speakers worth checking out, five of which are free events:

  • Healthcare Keynote: David Webster, Partner, IDEO Health + Wellness
  • Emerging Professionals Keynote: Eames Demetrios, Director, Eames Office
  • Design Keynote: Luca Nichetto, Nichetto & Partners
  • Architecture Keynote: Charles Renfro, Diller Scofidio + Renfro
  • Modernism at Risk Keynote: Henry Ng, Executive Vice President, World Monuments Fund
  • Hospitality Keynote: George Yabu & Glenn Pushelberg, Partners, Yabu Pushelber with Ilana Weitzman, Editor-In-Chief, enRoute Magazine

With many more tours, presentations, installations and workshops planned over the weekend it’s bound to be a source of inspiration.
