Trunk Studio is owned by designer Jess Tasker who operates out of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jess has created a line of furniture inspired by Canadian culture and landscape and combined a warm palette of materials with the clean lines of Danish modern furniture design. Using strong woods as her base the designs are intentionally simple allowing the beauty of the wood grain to be the focus. While the designs are subtle they remain creatively interesting as the designer plays with angles and mixes wood species.
Jess values quality in her products and works with woodshops within Nova Scotia to insure her ideas are being realized both accurately in their form but also to a high standard of quality. The pieces must be both aesthetically pleasing but also functional and long-lasting.
Jess Tasker grew up attending the nationally acclaimed Claude Watson School for the Arts in Toronto. At Havergal College she began to develop her Canadian aesthetic via her graduation studies in Inuit Art. Post-University she pursued a career as a carpenter’s apprentice that would allow her to work firsthand with creating and restoring structures. The lessons learned in carpentry help her design furniture using traditional and modern joinery. Eventually Jess felt it was time to bring her designs to the rest of the world via her furniture firm Trunk Studio.

The Station Chair:
Said to be inspired by the Canadian wilderness, the Station Chair is meant to evoke thoughts of canoeing across a great lake or snowshoeing through forest cover. It is a warm piece of furniture intended to invite the user to spread out or curl up and feel warm and cozy while sitting next to the fire or reading a book.
Upholstered in MacAusland’s 100% Virgin Wool from Prince Edward Island, and also available in the 70% wool Kvadrat Hallingdal range of fabrics which come from Denmark. Wool based fabrics evoke the familiar Canadian feel of a warm blanket on a cold night. This cozy yet modern lounge chair is quickly becoming a Trunk Studio signature piece.
Available in Walnut, Birch and a mixture of Birch & Walnut. Each Station Chair is handcrafted in Nova Scotia using solid hardwood and a combination of traditional and modern joinery techniques. Cushions are removable to allow customers to customize fabrics.
